Another ‘Fun Day’.
So whilst still being a nice change from the norm they still stuck to the program well and hopefully managed to even increase their knowledge and skills without it feeling too much like ‘class’.
Tonight they have got a ‘scary movie’ as a special treat. It went to vote and everybody not only wanted something rated PG13 but also something to make them shriek. As it was their reward for winning the Capture the Flag game I felt obliged to give permission. But I won’t be joining them!
For our surfers (Smokies and Sierras) the morning was spent having fun in downtown San Luis before hitting the beach. Unfortunately their surf day got cut a little short by an alert that a shark had been spotted out at sea. Although no where near the campers my staff did the sensible thing and retreated to the beach. Instead they’ll have to wait for the morning to catch some more waves.
We watched a black cloud carefully as it passed over camp this morning worried that it was heading for our hikers (Sierras and Snowdonia) but I am hopeful that it missed them and they continued to enjoy the cooler sunshine up in the mountains.
I am looking forward to having both groups back on campus tomorrow and promise to get the pictures from the camp cameras up ASAP. It is likely that any phone calls home tomorrow will be made later as both groups aren’t due to arrive back until later in the evening.
Have a good night,
Jude.

July 9 - Getting Steps In
The little row of weary faces that greeted my in the dinner line tonight inspired me to declare it ‘movie night’! With four groups off campus on trips, only our upper camp was left and they have been working so hard all day I felt they deserved a treat.
However, we now have some Dolphins in the making, and to reach Dolphin level you need 20,000 steps a day average. That’s approximately 10 miles! And believe me, even with all the running around we do, I’ve only reached that once so far this summer.
So in order to get entry to the movie, Cascades and Rockies had to show their pedos with 20,000 + steps on them. Some girls even walked around the fire pit whilst eating their fat free soft serve desert to ensure they would get in! For the Alps it was a little easier as being on the first level they only needed 10,000 but their time will also come!
The Appalachians and Snowdonia had their final surfing day today and spent the afternoon in downtown San Luis. I hear fat free frozen yogurt and hats were the main purchases. Now they are having s’mores and a fire back at the campsite.
The Sierras took the Smokies off to visit their namesake and today involved setting up camp and taking a hike. The conditions are beautiful in the mountains at the moment and I hope that the change of scenery will off-set the fear of hiking!
Have a lovely evening,
Jude.
