The ability to make educated choices about what you are eating is critical to leading a healthy lifestyle. Many foods that ‘claim’ to be healthy are in fact high in fat, sugar and calories, and it can be confusing to try to choose foods to ensure sustainable weight loss.

This is why Wellspring Camp La Jolla includes a nutrition and culinary education program as part of our regular camp schedule.

Topics covered over the summer include:

And we don’t just stick to the classroom.
Campers get involved in cooking right from the start so that they are confident in their ability to create their own meals. We also take campers on trips to the grocery store so they can start to recognize healthy brands and discover new low-fat alternatives to their favorite foods.

The highlight of the course is the Restaurant Trip. Here campers, with the support of their Life Coaches, learn how to look for the healthiest options on the menu and to request their food is prepared to their specifications.

Restaurant portions are traditionally double what we need and teaching campers little tricks like immediately ordering a to-go box and putting half their meal in it before they even start, can give them skills they can use forever. And ensure they always get 2 for 1 meals!

Campers leave Wellspring California with a complete nutrition and culinary education and are confident in their ability to choose and prepare simple, healthy meals.
